Spring in Iceland 2018
4 nights in Husafell, West Iceland and 3 nights in Hvergardi, South Iceland.
Travel the Icelandic landscape of FIRE and ICE over moss and snow covered lava fields and rugged mountains, active volcanoes and rumbling glaciers, hot rivers, waterfalls, geysers and geothermal lagoons. With weather changing as dramatically as the scenery, we will adapt our itinerary to capture the essence of what early Spring in Iceland is like and aim to see all kind of the Northern lights.
Plan on arriving in Reykjavik one day prior to the Yoga Journey and book your stay for one night, March 31st, in the capitol of Iceland for some Icelandic art and city life. On April 1st, our Icelandic Viking guide:) Andres, picks us up after breakfast and bring us west to Husafell and our lovely hotel. We will stop for hikes along the way exploring the scenic landscape of Hvalfjörður and Hraunfossar – Barnafossar waterfalls. The western part of Iceland is characterized by dense woods, lava formations, magnificent ravines, glaciers, and rushing glacial rivers.
On the first journey day we will arrive in time for yoga and dinner at Husafell hotel and finish up soaking in geothermal springs while watching the night sky… Husafell is free of light pollution and the place in the world where you are the most likely to lay your eyes on the mysterious Northern lights. Not to worry, the hotel offers Northern light wake up call service for those who like to go to bed and not miss out!
As you can imagine our main intent for retreating in Husafell is being in the mystery, awaiting the northern lights, have time to mediate, practice yoga twice a day, soak in hot springs, go for hikes and join our guide Andres for a Northern Lights snow shoeing hike one night when the conditions for a light show is the most promising…
While in Husafell we will also have plenty time to pick and choose our own experiences and activities. Perhaps join a tour “into the glacier” to see the famous ice cave and tunnel system in the second largest glacier in Europe, go dog sledding, and / or spend a day at Krauma nature baths, a new lagoon opening to the public this winter.
Mid retreat we transition with an epic super jeep adventure over Kaldidalur cold valley and through Pingvellir national park on the way to our new location in Hvergardi. In this highly volcanic area we will get to experience an authentic Icelandic cook out dinner by natural geothermal springs, more snow shoeing, icelandic horseback riding and/or cross country skiing and of course daily Yoga. You pick!
